The WD My Book Duo drive is designed to work with both Windows (10, 8.x, and 7) and Mac (10.9 or later) operating systems. However, the compatibility varies based on the hardware configuration and the file system.
This dual drive from WD is pre-formatted as a single NTFS partition that is compatible with almost all the Windows OSs. If you’re a Mac user, you might need to reformat the WD My Book Duo drive to make it work on your computer. The reformat process is also pretty easy.

Connecting The Drive To A Computer
Initially, connect the WD My Book Duo drive to an electrical outlet. Make sure to use the power cable and adapter that was shipped along with the drive for the same.
Now, connect the Windows or Mac computer to the drive using the USB cable provided along with the drive.
Switch on your drive and the computer.
Wait for your computer to recognize the connected drive.

Installing Wd Discovery (windows Only)
Note: If you’re using a Mac computer, reformat the drive first and then install the necessary WD software on it.
Install the WD Discovery software on your Windows computer from the drive folder.
To do so, open the drive folder from the File Explorer window on your computer.
Click the Install Now button when prompted.
Install the WD Discovery software by following the prompts displayed on the screen.
Once the drive's software is installed, you can access the WD drives that are connected to your computer.
You can also set up password protection, back up files, etc., using the apps that are provided along with the drive.
Reformatting The Drive (mac Only)
Initially, ensure that the WD My Book Duo drive is connected to your Mac computer.
Now, open the Disk Utility window.
Expand the External section.
Click on your drive followed by the Erase button.
Now, the pop-up dialog box titled “Erase…” will open.
Type the drive name in the Name field.
Choose the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) option from the Format drop-down menu.
Similarly, choose the GUID Partition Map option from the Scheme drop-down menu.
Finally, click the Erase button.
