Using a hard disk, it is easy to back up the data from your computer. An external hard disk is a backup device that is easy to use and access all your photos, videos, and music. If you have formatted the hard disk in which you have stored all the data from your computer, no worries. It is simple to restore it on your computer. Follow the below instructions to recover the data from the hard disk after formatting.

Recover Using The Backup Folder

In case you have previously taken a backup of your formatted external hard disk, then it is easy to restore the data on your computer. To do so, follow the below instructions.

For Windows Computer

  • Make sure to connect the hard disk to your computer.
  • Now, launch the File Explorer window and open the folder that contains the files you want to restore.
  • Choose the Home tab at the top of the window.
  • Click the History button.
  • Here, select the items like folders, individual files, or multiple files that you want to restore on your computer.
  • Once selected, click on the Restore button.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to restore the data.

Alternative Way

  • Select the Start menu on your computer’s main screen and type Control Panel in the search box at the bottom of the window.
  • Click the Control Panel option from the search result.
  • Select the Backup and Restore option.
  • Select The Backup And Restore Option
  • Here, click on the “Restore my files” button.
  • Choose the data that you want to restore from the Restore Files dialog box.
  • Select the location where you want to restore the selected files.
  • Choose the respective option for the duplicate files.
  • Click on the link to view the restored files on your computer.
  • Click the Finish button.
  • Now, you can easily restore the data from the formatted hard disk to the respective location on your computer.

Recover Using Command Prompt

  • Select the Start menu on your computer and type “cmd” into the search box.
  • Here, right-click on the Command Prompt option from the search result.
  • Pick the Run as administrator option from your drop-down list.
  • Now, input the following command in the Command Prompt dialog box and press the Enter key on the keyboard.
  • chkdsk F: /f

  • In the above command, replace the letter “F” with the drive letter of the formatted hard disk in which you lost the data.
  • Next, input “Y” and press the Enter key on the keyboard.
  • Input the following command and hit the Enter key.
  • F:\>attrib -h -r -s /s /d *.*
  • Here, replace the letter “F” with the drive letter of the formatted hard disk in which you lost the data.
  • You must wait for some time to complete the restoring process.
  • Once completed, the data will be restored to a newly created folder on your hard disk.

You can recover the data from your formatted hard disk on your computer by following the above instructions.
