- First, connect the Seagate external hard drive to your Mac using the provided USB cable.
- Once your drive is detected, click the Finder icon in the Dock and select Applications from the left-side panel.
- Click the Utilities folder and double-click the Disk Utility icon to open Disk Utility.
- Alternatively, you can open Disk Utility using Spotlight Search. Click on the Spotlight Search icon at the top-right corner of the desktop and type ‘Disk Utility’ in the search field.
- From the search results, click to open Disk Utility.
- In the Disk Utility window, select your Seagate external hard drive from the left-side panel.
- If you aren’t able to find the hard drive, click the View icon at the top-left of the page and select the Show All Devices option.
- After selecting your drive, click the Erase button.
- In the Name field, input a name for your Seagate external hard drive to find it easily on your Mac.
- Select the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) option from the Format drop-down menu.
- Click the Scheme drop-down menu and select the GUID Partition Map option.
- Click the Erase button to start formatting the drive.
- Once the format is complete, click Done.
