  • Next, open the BIOS screen on your computer.
  • Go to the Security or BIOS Security tab using the arrow buttons on your computer keyboard.
  • Select the Change HDD Password option.
  • Now, a pop-up dialog box prompting you to enter the current password of the drive will open.
  • Enter the current password in the given field.
  • Leave the “Enter New Password” and “Confirm New Password” fields blank and tap Enter.

  • Mac: 10.5 to 10.12

For Windows

  • Open the drive folder.
  • Locate and double-click on the "HDD Password tool for Windows Setup.exe" file.
  • Install the HDD Password Tool by following the instructions displayed on the screen.
  • Once the password tool is installed successfully, its icon will be added to the desktop screen.

For Mac

  • Make sure that the Mac computer recognizes your Toshiba external hard drive.
  • Open your drive folder.
  • Double-click on the HDD Password Tool for Mac.dmg file followed by Install HDD Password Tool.
  • Click Install > Continue.
  • Accept the end-user license agreement of the tool when prompted.
  • After installing the tool, perform the removal process as discussed below.

Removing password using the HDD Password Tool

  • Open the HDD Password Tool on your Windows or Mac computer by double-clicking on its icon.
  • Unlock the drive if necessary. To do so:
