- Connect your WD My Passport drive to your PC.
- Wait for few seconds until your PC recognizes your WD My Passport drive.
- Make sure you back up all the files and folders on your WD My Passport.
- Now, you need to go to the Start menu and search for the My Computer icon.
- Select My Computer and right-click on it.
- Choose the Manage option from the list.
- Search and locate the disk management option on the left side of the window below Storage.
- Open Disk Management, and you can see all the drives along with your WD My Passport drive on the Disk Management page.
- Right-click on the black bar available at the top of your WD My Passport drive and select New simple volume.
- Your desktop will pop up with the New simple volume wizard.
- Click Next on the wizard, and it will lead to the Choosing the volume size page.
- Make sure the volume size of your drive is correct, and click Next.
- Choose the drive letter under Assign drive letter or path and click Next to format wd passport for windows.
- Your desktop will lead to the Format partition window.
- In this window, make sure you choose the format of this volume with the following settings.
- Change the settings by choosing the File system as NTFS from the list and setting as Default in Allocation unit size.
- Name your volume label as per your desire (such as My Passport or WD).
- Select Perform a quick format and select Next.
- In the Completing the new simple volume wizard, select Finish.
- Now, on Disk Management, you can see your WD My Passport drive shown as Formatting.
- Wait for few minutes until the formatting takes place.
- After formatting, your WD My Passport drive will be visible as Healthy.
- Thus, you will get to know that your WD My Passport external drive is formatted successfully.
