Poor support and doc for Windows 7 causes great frustration August 27, 2010 Frank A. Bell Their marketing material says "A simple reformat is all it takes to ready G-RAID for use with Windows® systems**." What they don't mention is that the reformat must be done using USB or Firewire. If you use SATA Windows 7 will only recognize two of the 4TB. After formatting using USB, Windows 7 will recognize the formatted 4TB drive using SATA. This is not in the doc that comes with the drive or their website.
This is a 4TB drive. Virtually everyone will be using SATA. My email to tech support is still unanswered three business days later. If they provide phone support they don't publish the number. I spent two days scouring the internet before I found the solution posted in a users group by someone who had greater success in getting tech support.
As to the drive itself, the fan noise is noticeable, but not awful. I have a custom built quiet computer (fanless video card, insulated case, quiet fans, water cooled processor) so I notice the fan. When I place it under my desk I probably won't notice it. My guess is the fan probably wouldn't be noticeable over the typical desktop noise. The drives are quiet.
If I was rating just the drive I'd give it four stars, but the poor doc and non-existent customer support easily take the overall rating down another notch.
Everything ordered and expected August 14, 2010 Alan Connell Very pleased. I needed to do a major system backup and this 4TB external unit did everything expected. When I just plugged in the drive, my computer asked if I wanted to use it as the backup hard drive. This might not hold true to all computers, but my current Mac was a snap. The toughest decision I had to make was to just click "yes" without any configurations to set. Almost too easy.

I'm a professional Photographer shooting thousands of "raw" images weekly. I need reliable fast commercial grade storage solutions and the G-Tech drives easily deliver day after day. "Highly Recommended"
So far, so good May 9, 2010 Shaun P. Bailey (Hillsboro, Oregon) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Have gone through LaCie products and not super happy with them. Grabbed one of these and I must say so far, so good (finding wood to knock on). It is quiet, works fast, and the construction matches the look of my MacPro nicely.
Room to store April 28, 2010 m. lafferty (new england) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Needed more room to store photographic and video files. Another unnamed drive has failed me twice, but this product has proven to do the job.
This is the second G-raid I've bought and I'm pleased with the design and quality.
