The Pros of the unit are pretty simple: cheap for 1TB of room, relatively decent to look at, doesn't run as hot as other units I've owned, and requires no additional drivers for Plug And Play in Windows.
The Neutrals list is as short: Irritating built-in software (bear with me). Personally, when I buy an external hard drive, that's all I want; I'm not looking for an automated backup solution. That most of these types of drives come with such software is fine with me, as long as I can get rid of it. Plug in this unit, and you will also see a new virtual CD drive, which has their backup software solution on it. You can format and partition the main hard drive all you want but you will not get rid of the virtual CD. That piece is stored on the Firmware of the unit and until such a time that HP decides to upgrade the Firmware to give you an option to not use the Virtual CD (like Western Digital has done with their Passport drives), you're stuck with it. The best you can do is go into Windows Device Manager and disable the virtual drive.
The Con is this: One week into use and a cluster corrupted. Thankfully I had a backup of my backup so I could recover that data, but had I only relied on this drive to store my backup master data, I'd have lost it.
My confidence in this drive is shot and I'll wind up replacing it ASAP. My confidence in getting a reliable external drive from HP is also gone.

This product is easy to install, works great, and packs up your computer quickly and easily. The write speed is a little slow, but the space and ease of use are more than worth it.

This was easy and simple. I'm now able to keep my computer hard drive free of clutter and save memory and save my pictures and music off of my main hard drive.
