I bought this external hard drive when I discovered that my existing unit did not have the capacity I needed. At a cost of under $50.00, it has performed well, no problems in installing or using. I am quite pleased with it.

PRO: non-techie just plugged it in and it works fine on Windows Vista Basic
Have been using for 9+ months without any problem
GREAT CHEAP ALTERNATIVE THAN FLASH DRIVES OR SD CARDS
CON: Needs to be plugged into a power source and then connected to laptop via USB ... so so NOT PORTABLE
IF .... as some reviewers say ... it just stops working ... I am going to be a total loser!

Bought 750GB version to turn standard VIP211K HD Receiver into a DVR. After paying Dish the $40 fee, the HD initialized and reformatted just fine and is supporting DVR functions like a charm. Will report back if there are any reliability issues. Not used as a primary DVR and storage, but I'm hoping to use drive as backup storage for primary VIP722 DVR as well. Don't know if I can do this yet (support two receivers with same HD) and if the Cirago will prove to be reliable. We'll see. Can't beat the price!
UPDATE 6/22/2010: Uh Oh! Hard drive "disconnected" from the HD Receiver several times, then couldn't be recognized at all. In less than 2 months, the unit has issues. Runs red-hot like others have said. Once unplugged and cooled, operation was restored. This thing has some severe heat-related issues and is now beyond Amazon's return policy date. STAY AWAY if you need to keep power on for an extended period. In my application, the drive must be energized continually else the whole satellite system must reboot when turned back on. This drive is unsuitable. Rrrrrrr....

The item was very well packaged and in excellent (new) condition when I received it. The only minor drawback I can think of is that it didn't have a utility for making compressed back-ups of computer hard drives such as Ghost included in the box. WYSIWYG - What you see is what you get. You get a nice-looking external HD with a LOT of storage capacity.
